Stephen and Annette Comer: Owner/General Manager and Bookkeeper

Dr. Comer is originally from Virginia but he grew up all over the United States. As a young man he spent his summers working on a thoroughbred race horse farm for his grandfather and helped his father with field research in his study of birds. Dr. Comer completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Nebraska before graduating from veterinary school at Ohio State University.   He practiced for a year as a mixed animal veterinarian in rural Ohio, then four years in a small animal practice in Ft. Wayne before coming to Grand Rapids to own and work at the Animal Emergency Hospital. In his free time he enjoys pursuing his hobbies of photography, traveling and cooking.


Annette grew up in Tiffin, Ohio.  Upon graduating from Tiffin University with an Office Management degree, she worked in the financial aid office at IPFW.  Annette began working as the bookkeeper when they bought  the Animal Emergency Hospital in 1991. She helps out with administrative projects but primarily focuses on all bookkeeping functions of the hospital.  When she does manage to find free time, she enjoys playing games with her family (when they actually come home) and creating homemade stamped cards with her friends. 


Dr. Comer and Annette celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary this year.  They have four sons who are grown and almost on their own.  One finished five years in the Marines and is now attending Ferris State University majoring in diesel mechanics; one graduated from Full Sail University in Orlando, majoring in video game animation and now lives in Texas; one is attending Grand Valley State University majoring in hospitality management, finance and economics; the youngest is a freshman at CMU majoring in secondary education hoping to be a high school math teacher someday.   They have an awesome cat, Louie, who adopted the family when he made the patio his home and has a personality that just doesn’t quit!  They also recently welcomed their first grandchild to the family.  Annette is definitely enjoying a little girl to spoil.


Hannah Delgado: Payroll & Benefits Assistant Manager

Hannah is a recent graduate from Grand Valley State University, where she received her Bachelor of Business Administration with a Human Resources emphasis. Before Hannah took on the role of Payroll and Benefits Assistant Manager, she was the HR Intern here at the Animal Emergency Hospital. Hannah recently married her high school sweetheart, and they have two Pit Bulls named Coco and Lulu.


Claire Allen: Recruitment & Retention Assistant Manager

Claire is a Kalamazoo native who gravitated towards East Lansing to earn her Bachelors in Communication from Michigan State University. She gained HR experience from working at a staffing agency, and is excited to pair that experience with her passion for animals here at AEH. She is extremely passionate about animals, helping train and develop others, and making a difference in this world in any way she can. Her favorite thing to do is spending time with her furry funky bunch – 4 dogs and 2 cats that she rescued. While it can get hectic, she wouldn’t have it any other way. In her free time, she enjoys practicing yoga, adventuring outdoors with the pups, exploring the city, as well as anything with her friends and family (with or without fur)!


Rebecca Phelps: Administrative Assistant

Rebecca graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Adrian College in Adrian, MI. After graduation, she traveled with her husband around the country while he pursued a career in the Navy. They eventually ended up in Grand Rapids and are thrilled to once again be back in the great state of Michigan! At AEH, Rebecca works behind the scenes to provide administrative support to the management team. When not at work, Rebecca enjoys reading, watching movies, and spending time with her family.
