Dr. Shields is originally from Erie, Pennsylvania. She proudly graduated with her Bachelors of Biology from Pennsylvania State University prior to attending veterinary school at Michigan State. Originally she planned to work with horses after graduation, but during her clinical year she discovered a passion for emergency medicine during her externship at Animal Emergency and Specialty Hospital of Grand Rapids. She has a special interest in soft tissue surgery, anesthesia/pain management, and enjoys the opportunity to comfort and communicate with clients. Dr. Shields spends her free time with her new baby girl and her husband, hiking, inline skating, or riding her rodeo horse Bailey. She also has three senior dogs (Behr, Fritz, and Chloe) who love hiking and traveling as well.
